Britains ‘Unbreakable’ Scale Models – Uncatalogued Farm Box set dating to between July 1958 and 1959, Made in England at Sutherland Road, Walthamstow, London E17 [production was known at Sutherland Road from 1958 according to Peter Cole’s ‘Suspended Animation’] – this exceptionally rare set comprises a combination of Britains and Herald Farm models [10 pieces] in near Mint or Mint unused condition, still strung onto the original green card insert, complete with the complaints slip – the unusual outer orange/black open window-type box is Good, with age wear, scuffs, two small splits bottom front, crushing/creases to right-hand end, with the original yellow price sticker for ‘3/11’ in blue ballpoint (and 2/11 in pencil underneath) – we only know of two other examples of this set (slightly different contents), one of which is shown on P33 of ‘Britains Herald Plastic Farm Models 1955-1969’ by Barney Brown – the first example of this rare set we have handled or offered for sale [Note: according to the 1959 Britains “Crown Range” of plastic farm models at least two other sets, 257F and 257F, were issued in this same box type, though contained models from Britains lead moulds and according to James Opie were issued as second grade models at a cheaper price than Herald]
